About Us

Summer Youth Theatre was an idea of its’ founder, Jim Butch. At the time, he was the Drama teacher at Middletown High School. The new high school was to open in 1969 and his idea was to involve students during the summer months. He wanted to rehearse and perform a musical production using high school students. The first production in 1969 at the new high school was West Side Story.

In any given summer, we work with 60-100 students from as many as 17 area schools in Butler, Warren, Preble, Montgomery, and Hamilton counties. The students serve as cast, chorus, orchestra, and various technical crew members. Adults are only used when a student is not available.

Summer Youth Theatre receives support from a variety of sources. Benefactors and Patrons are entitled to tickets and reserved seating for the production in exchange for their generous contributions. If you are interested in becoming a Benefactor, Patron, or advertiser, please contact us by mail, email, or talk with one of our current board members.
